Mistletoe sales boost walkers’ coffers

One of Cheddar’s newest groups – Cheddar Walking – entered into the festive spirit before Christmas by dressing up and selling bunches of mistletoe to the crowds who flocked to the village’s Festive Shopping Night.

The idea behind the stall outside the National Trust Shop in the Gorge was twofold – to make some money for the group to fund its activities and to promote walking in and around the village. Earlier in the year, the group had succeeded in gaining national accreditation for Cheddar as a ‘Walkers Are Welcome’ destination.

On the night Cheddar Walking raised around £90 towards its publication of walking guides and events such as the free walking festival planned for the summer and it also introduced a number of people to its walks.

Chairman of Cheddar Walking, Huw Robson, who also doubled as Father Christmas for part of the night, said he was pleased with the evening’s work as the stall and mistletoe had cost nothing thanks to the generosity of others and it had allowed the group to introduce itself.
